The Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) has secured a significant addition to its coaching staff by enlisting the services of former South African cricketer Lance Klusener as a consultant for the state team. Klusener, aged 51, will assume responsibility for the development of cricketers in Tripura and work closely with the Ranji side.
Renowned for his international cricket career, Klusener currently serves as the coach of the Durban Super Giants in the SA20 tournament. He brings a wealth of experience, having previously worked as a batting coach for South Africa and Zimbabwe, and acted as the head coach for Afghanistan during the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Although this is a major achievement for Tripura and Indian domestic cricket as a whole, Klusener is no stranger to the domestic circuit. He previously served as Delhi’s consultant coach during the 2018-19 season. Under a contractual agreement, the 51-year-old will lead the coaching efforts for a period of 100 days.
While his primary focus will be on the Ranji team, Klusener will also contribute to the development of the state’s eight teams across different age groups in both sections. Accompanied by Tripura Cricket Association vice-president Timir Chanda, Klusener will arrive in the state capital Agartala on Saturday and spend 20 days there, providing guidance and mentorship to aspiring cricketers in the region.
“We have high hopes that our cricketers will benefit greatly from his extensive international experience. Our players are eagerly looking forward to working with Klusener,” commented Chanda in a statement.
