Geoffrey Boycott, a former England cricketer, feels that England missed an opportunity to take control of the Lord’s Test against Australia due to some questionable batting towards the end of Day 2. Australia’s use of the short-ball tactic proved successful when Ben Duckett fell for it and was caught by David Warner at fine leg.
Boycott criticized Duckett for attempting that shot on 98 and commented on England’s mini-collapse from 188/1 to 222/4. He noted that England’s eagerness to attack everything and not be tied down led to their downfall as Australia played on their ego. Boycott believes that England had the match under control but surrendered to Australia’s bumper barrage.
