Every Indian T20 Premier League season comes with a lot of excitement and fervor, fans across the world wait eagerly for the tournament. From explosive batsmen to fiery fast bowlers, from wily spinners to electrifying fielders, the Indian T20 Premier League has it all.
Apart from all this, the league is also the place for records to be broken. However, there are only some mind-boggling records that might never be broken or it would be immensely tough to achieve the same in the near future. Here, we look at such records.
1. Chris Gayle’s 175 vs Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013
West Indian powerhouse Chris Gayle entertained us with fascinating innings in the format in 2013. It was one of the best innings ever witnessed in the IPL and also in T20 cricket.
Gayle smacked an unbeaten 175-run knock for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors. He achieved the landmark in just 66 deliveries. Right from the start, the Jamaican made his intentions clear. He took the bowlers all over the park hitting 13 fours and 17 sixes to register the highest score.
This record by Gayle is monumental and it would require a herculean effort to break this feat. Perhaps in this generation, it might never.
2. Chennai Super Kings record – 9 seasons, 9 playoffs, 7 finals, and 3 trophies
Three-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings have been a part of nine out of 11 IPL seasons. Interestingly, MS Dhoni’s side has made it to the playoffs in every season they have participated. This makes CSK the most successful team in the cash-rich T20 league.
They have made it to the IPL final a record seven times. No other teams have come this close. Besides winning the trophy thrice, CSK ended up as runners-up on four occasions.
3. Amit Mishra’s three IPL hat-tricks
It is hard to achieve hat-tricks in the T20 format. Leg-spinner Amit Mishra holds this unique record of amassing three IPL hat-tricks.Across 11 seasons in the IPL, only 14 bowlers have managed to claim a hat-trick. Mishra claimed the feats in 2008, 2011 and 2013.
4. Chris Gayle’s 30 balls century
Chris Gayle also holds the record for the fastest IPL ton. He achieved the same in just 30 balls. This came in the epic unbeaten 175-run knock against Pune Warriors India in 2013. The previous fastest century in IPL was achieved in 37 balls by Yusuf Pathan in the 2010 edition of the IPL.
During the knock, Gayle smacked 17 sixes – the most by any batsmen in an innings. It was one of the most entertaining knocks of all time, and it is doubtful that any cricketer will be able to break it.
5. Virat Kohli’s 973 runs in a season, IPL 2016
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Virat Kohli is arguably the best among the current crop of batsmen. Meanwhile, he was at his pinnacle best during 2016 IPL, when he scored 937 runs in one single season. The amazing player was at his magical best scoring 937 runs from 16 games including four centuries – the highest by any batsmen in a single IPL edition. He scored at an average of over 80 which included seven fifty+ scores.
