Saba Karim has pointed out that Sanju Samson’s inconsistency has caused him to fall behind Suryakumar Yadav in the hierarchy of India’s middle-order batsmen in ODI cricket.
Karim recently revealed his preferred Indian squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, selecting Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul as the potential No. 4 and No. 5 batsmen, pending their fitness. He also named Suryakumar as the backup middle-order batsman, but did not include Samson in the squad.
When asked about Samson’s inclusion in the ODIs and T20Is against the West Indies, Karim expressed his support, but highlighted that the Rajasthan Royals captain lacked the consistency demonstrated by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma in the IPL 2023 season.
Karim stated, “Given the current absence of players, I believe Sanju Samson should be part of the XI. He needs to consistently perform and challenge the current players in the team. Unfortunately, Sanju Samson hasn’t been able to do that.”
Furthermore, Karim emphasized, “Even in the IPL, his performances were inconsistent. I want to see the same level of consistency in Sanju Samson’s batting that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma displayed this year. That element is still missing.”
