In a thrilling match on Sunday, Punjab Kings secured their fifth victory of IPL 2023 by successfully chasing down a target of 201 against Chennai Super Kings. Opting to bowl first, PBKS conceded 200/4 in 20 overs, largely due to an unbeaten knock of 92 runs by Devon Conway.

Despite facing some challenges, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team managed to find their way to victory when Sikandar Raza hit the winning three runs on the last ball of the match. While the exciting encounter captured attention, another highlight was MS Dhoni’s clever stumping to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh, the PBKS batsman.

During the 9th over of PBKS’ chase, Prabhsimran misjudged a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, venturing too far from the crease. Dhoni, positioned behind the stumps, collected the ball and effortlessly stumped Prabhsimran out. However, before dislodging the bails, the CSK skipper playfully teased Prabhsimran, adding a touch of cheekiness to his dismissal, with Prabhsimran departing after scoring 42 runs.

Requiring nine runs to win from the final over bowled by Matheesha Pathirana, Punjab Kings seemed to face an uphill task as only two runs were scored from the first three deliveries. However, under immense pressure, Raza remained composed and managed to score two runs each from the following two deliveries.

Raza (13 not out) sent the last ball towards the boundary, but Maheesh Theekshana made a brilliant fielding effort to stop the ball just before it reached the ropes. Nonetheless, by that point, the PBKS batsmen had completed three runs, leaving the home crowd at Chepauk stunned into silence.

Punjab Kings finished at 201 for 6, with significant contributions from Prabhsimran Singh (42), Liam Livingstone (40), Sam Curran (29), and Jitesh Sharma (21), while CSK opener Devon Conway’s outstanding unbeaten knock of 92 went in vain.
