Having been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the 14th edition of IPL 2021 mid-tournament on Tuesday. The announcement came after members of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings coach, Kolkata Knight Riders were tested positive.
On Monday, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach L Balaji along with Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy had returned positive results. Followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s wicket keeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals’ veteran spinner Amit Mishra.
IPL 2021 began on April 9 and as per schedule, the final was planned for May 30. However, considering the safety of the players, support staff and other participants involved in the IPL event, BCCI announced an immediate halt to a month-long smoothly running tournament. The SRH Vs MI match which was supposed to be held in Delhi, today is also postponed.
However, players have expressed anxiety over the situation earlier as well. The impact of Corona was made evident when various overseas and domestic players decided to leave the IPL mid-tournament. Overseas players like Andrew Tye, David Warner, Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson had already left for home mid-tournament while Ravichandran Ashwin also took a break.
With almost 360K cases and more being reported everyday and raging problems like the shortage of oxygen, India is well and truly in an extremely difficult situation. The rising number of COVID-19 cases in India had caused concern in IPL 2021.
COVID-19 breaching bio-bubble has also raised concerns over T20 World Cup in Oct-Nov, to be hosted in India.
BCCI hasn’t announced any further information regarding the new dates, to know more about IPL 2021 prediction news and updates, visit https://www.fsl11.com/ IPL or stay tuned and we will keep you posted.
