The discussions surrounding MS Dhoni’s retirement from the IPL just seem to continue endlessly. Even in the ongoing IPL 2023, there have been numerous rumors circulating about his potential retirement from the lucrative league, but the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain is yet to confirm anything.
Dhoni, along with his team, was fully prepared to face the defending champions in the IPL 2023 final on Sunday, May 28. However, persistent rain forced the match to be rescheduled to the reserve day, which was Monday, May 29.
During the rain delay on Sunday, Kapil Dev, the legendary Indian cricketer and captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, shared his thoughts on Dhoni’s possible IPL retirement. In an interview with ABP News, Kapil praised Dhoni for leading his team to the finals of the 16th edition of the IPL. He also acknowledged that Dhoni won’t play forever.
“Dhoni has been playing in the IPL for 15 years. Why are we solely focused on Dhoni? He has already accomplished so much. What more do we expect from him? We can’t expect him to play indefinitely. Instead, we should be grateful that he played for 15 years. Whether he plays next year or not, we should appreciate his impressive contributions before his departure. He may not have scored big runs, but he led his team to the final, which highlights the significance of a captain in the game of cricket,” expressed Kapil.
