Javed Miandad, the former captain, has expressed his strong disapproval of the BCCI’s decision to decline touring Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. Miandad, who has consistently criticized India’s reluctance to play cricket in Pakistan, did not hold back his criticism following the approval of the ‘hybrid model’ by the ACC. Under this model, India will play all their matches in Sri Lanka. Miandad finds this proposal unsatisfactory and believes that Pakistan should refuse to travel to India unless the Indian cricket team reciprocates by visiting Pakistan for a series.
Miandad’s criticism of India and the BCCI was unabated as he emphasized his stance. He stated, “Pakistan has visited India in 2012 and 2016, and now it is India’s turn to come here. If it were up to me, I would never go to India to play any match, even if it is the World Cup. We are always ready to play against them (India), but they never respond in the same manner. Pakistani cricket holds greater significance… we continue to produce talented players. India can disregard us if they wish. I don’t believe that not going to India will have any negative impact on us.” Miandad conveyed his thoughts to reporters, leaving no room for ambiguity.
