Following Australia’s narrow two-wicket victory against England in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, there were numerous talking points from the match. However, much of the discussion centered around the behavior of English bowler Ollie Robinson, who made headlines with his antics throughout the game.
Robinson’s behavior ranged from sledging Usman Khawaja to making a No. 11 remark about Australia’s lower order. During Day 3 of the match, England’s bowling attack utilized a barrage of bouncers to put pressure on Australia’s lower order after they were bundled out for 386 in their first innings.
The tactic proved successful, as England took Australia’s last four wickets for just 14 runs in the first innings. Reflecting on this, Robinson stated that the bouncer barrage was a strategy that the England team had discussed as a group, given that Australia’s lower order consisted of No.11 batters.
In response to Robinson’s comments, Australian veteran Nathan Lyon made a humorous remark, acknowledging that he was indeed a No. 11 batter but was unable to bat there due to Josh Hazlewood.
Lyon stated that he is actually a no.11, but Josh does not allow him to bat in that position. He added that it was just a friendly teasing and he has no issues with it, according to IndiaToday.
