Rohit Sharma’s Team India is expected to receive a significant boost ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup. Key batsman Shreyas Iyer and pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah are on track to recover from their injuries in time for the tournament. The Asia Cup 2023, scheduled between August 31 and September 17, will be hosted by former champions Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Jasprit Bumrah has commenced “light bowling” sessions at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Bumrah, currently at the NCA for physiotherapy, has been out of action for India since the T20I series against Australia in the previous year. Prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Bumrah underwent back surgery in New Zealand.

Shreyas Iyer, Bumrah’s teammate, has also been sidelined due to a back injury. Iyer underwent back surgery after missing the 2023 IPL. He experienced discomfort and did not bat in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia, eventually being ruled out due to a back injury. The report further stated that the medical staff at the NCA is confident about Iyer and Bumrah making their comebacks during the Asia Cup in September.
