The selection process for players in the Indian team remains a perplexing subject for many. Following the announcement of the Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), there was a flood of reactions regarding the continued exclusion of domestic superstar Sarfaraz Khan. Even former India opener Aakash Chopra expressed his bewilderment, observing that Sarfaraz has consistently amassed an impressive number of runs in the recent Ranji Trophy campaigns.
Aakash Chopra, in a video on his YouTube channel, criticized the selectors and urged them to disclose the “reason” behind Sarfaraz’s absence from the Test team, considering his exceptional performance in First Class cricket.
Chopra raised a crucial question, stating, “What should Sarfaraz do? If we examine his statistics over the past three years, he has outperformed his counterparts by a significant margin. He has performed exceptionally well in various conditions. Despite this, if he is not being selected… what message does it convey?”
He emphasized the significance of seeking clarification, saying, “This is a legitimate question to ask. If there are undisclosed factors or unknown variables that influenced the decision, it would be better to make them public. Simply state that there is a specific aspect of Sarfaraz’s game that the selectors are not satisfied with, and that’s why he is not being considered. However, we are unaware if such an explanation exists or if Sarfaraz has been made aware of it.”
