Cricketer-turned-broadcaster Aakash Chopra has expressed concerns about David Warner’s form in England ahead of the World Test Championship final. Warner, who has scored 1,888 runs in 28 Tests against England at an average of 37.70, has not had a great record in the country. In his last five Tests in England, he has scored just 195 runs at an average of 39.
Chopra believes that Warner’s struggles in England could be a chink in Australia’s armor in the WTC final. On his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed his uncertainty about David Warner, stating that he has mixed feelings about him. “His numbers in England are not great. Usman Khawaja is likely to open the batting with him, and then you have Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith and Travis Head.”
Chopra also acknowledged that Australia have a strong batting lineup, but he believes that Warner’s form could be a factor in the WTC final. He stated that there is a considerable amount of batting depth with Alex Carey and Cameron Green following that. “But if Warner doesn’t fire, it could be a problem for Australia.”
However, Chopra also pointed out that Australia have a very good bowling attack, which could help them to overcome Warner’s struggles. According to him, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland are currently in excellent form. “So if Warner doesn’t fire, Australia still have a chance of winning the Test.” The WTC final will be played at The Oval from June 18-22.
