Invited to bat first, Royal Challengers Bangalore made a decent effort to put-up a competitive total of 142 for a loss of six wickets on a slow-Bangalore pitch. Mumbai found themselves in trouble after being reduced to 33/5 in 8 overs. However, the best was yet to come for the Mumbai Indians. Keiron Pollard and Krunal Pandya batted sensibly and stitched a crucial partnership worth of 93 runs from 57 balls. Both took the match to the end. Pollard was dismissed soon after his fifty, but he had taken Mumbai towards the safe shores. Pandya brothers added the finishing touches and grabbed the victory for Mumbai.
2. Mission Impossible in 2014
Mumbai Indians sealed the final spot in the 2014 playoffs in a dramatic way. They thrashed Rajasthan Royals (RR), to seal the spot based on NRR. Chasing 190 runs on the board and NRR being the main issue, Mumbai Indians are up for quite a chase. But, they never disappointed, as Corey Anderson was on the hunt and the first-ball six of Aditya Tare was the cherry on the cake. Harsha Bhogle feels it was one of the defining moments for Mumbai.
3. Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Lions-2017 (Mumbai Indians won in Super Over)
The Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians produced the first Super Over of VIVO IPL 2017 by scoring identical 153 runs. Requiring 154 runs win the match, Mumbai Indians were cruising towards the victory at one stage. Due to the mess made by Mumbai Indians’ batsmen, Gujarat Lions were back in the match.
Going into Super Over, batting first, MI lost their two wickets for 11 runs. However, Bumrah bowled a sensational over, restricting the home side to six runs and guiding the away side into the victory.
4. Lasith Malinga defends 2 runs in 1 ball to win IPL 2019
It was nine to win off six balls as the finals of 2019 IPL boiled down to the last over. Finally, it was down to two off the last ball and that is when Lasith Malinga pulled out a slower cutter which was too good for Shardul Thakur off the last ball.
